Clive Reeves | Navigating the narrative
Clive founded Reeves in 2009. The consultancy now operates from Birmingham and Newcastle with a team combining national agency experience and in-house video production. Account handlers have journalism backgrounds—newsroom experience or formal training—which shapes how the consultancy judges newsworthiness and places stories. Reeves has been recognised as a PRCA Workplace Champion.
As founder and managing director, Clive remains closely involved in client work. There are no account managers between senior expertise and the client. He leads on crisis communications and senior counsel, while the team delivers day-to-day campaigns, press office, and content with the same care and judgement.
Over more than forty years, he has built relationships across regional and national media. People often describe him as one of the better connected PR practitioners in Birmingham and Newcastle, and as someone who is good with people—clients, journalists, and the contacts that matter when things get difficult. Journalists trust him as a source. He would say he knows a lot of them, and they tend to take his call. That comes from being useful to them over a long time, not from networking.
Media and press office
Press office work drives the consultancy. Clive comes from that background—he completed work experience in the BBC newsroom at Television Centre, sitting in on editorial briefings and seeing how news priorities are set. That shapes how the consultancy judges what is newsworthy and what isn't.
He served on the board of the Birmingham Press Club alongside senior editors and journalists. He is a member of the Royal Television Society and Press Club Brussels Europe.
Crisis communications
When clients need crisis support, Clive handles it at board level. He has done so for over twenty years—workforce restructures, reputational incidents, regulatory matters. The approach is consistent: careful judgement, disciplined messaging, and knowing when to say nothing. In a crisis, you need someone who has seen it before and knows who else to call.
Retained clients
Reeves often acts as the communications function for clients—advising leadership teams and taking responsibility for delivery, not just counsel. Client relationships typically span years, often decades. That longevity comes from understanding what matters and delivering consistently.
The consultancy's experience spans education and multi-academy trusts, built environment and construction, manufacturing and engineering, public sector, healthcare, and hospitality.
Birmingham and Newcastle
Clive is embedded in both cities. In Birmingham, he was appointed Deputy Lieutenant of the West Midlands in 2025. In Newcastle, he serves as an advisor to the City Council. These roles reflect long-standing relationships and a genuine connection to both places.
Out of Office
In 2011, Clive founded Out of Office, a professional network for LGBT+ people and allies. It has hosted over eighty events across Birmingham and Newcastle, with speakers including Sir Andy Street and Kim McGuinness.
He is one of the UK's few openly gay Deputy Lieutenants, and one of the more senior openly gay people working in PR.
