Enfield Speciality Doors Expands With Cotswold Doors Acquisition

Enfield Speciality Doors Managing Director, James Saunders

Enfield Speciality Doors is boosting production capacity and targeting shorter lead times after acquiring the business and assets of Cotswold Doors.

The deal, completed on 6th October for an undisclosed sum, brings Cotswold's manufacturing operations in Fairford and Ipswich into the business, adding around 60,000 sq ft of production space and an experienced specialist workforce.

The Ipswich operation will become a shared manufacturing facility with the Enfield, North London site. All production and operational roles across the new sites are being retained.

Enfield manufactures bespoke fire, acoustic, security, X-ray and other specialist timber doors and doorsets for commercial and public-sector projects across the UK. Cotswolds Doors manufactures high quality door solutions for projects in the educational, hospitality and healthcare market sectors.

The acquisition follows a fire at Enfield's North London factory on 8 July which damaged part of the manufacturing facility and temporarily reduced production capacity.

Production continued throughout and lead times are already improving. The additional capacity from the acquisition will accelerate Enfield’s return to normal four-to- six week lead times.

James Saunders, Managing Director of Enfield Speciality Doors, said:

"Enfield is a very technical business and much of our strength comes from people who really understand doors. We've found that same depth of knowledge and experience within Cotswold.

“The fire reduced our capacity, but we kept manufacturing and worked hard to keep customers supplied.

“This acquisition changes the picture significantly. It gives us more capacity, more technical expertise and much greater resilience.

“We're also bringing forward planned investment at Enfield, so we're not simply replacing what was lost in the fire. We're building a stronger and more capable business."

The fire-affected part of Enfield's factory will be fully refurbished over the next six months, with new manufacturing equipment installed as part of an accelerated investment programme.

Enfield Speciality Doors is part of The GSP Group, a British group of specialist manufacturers and service providers operating across fire safety and building safety, supporting customers across the full breadth of the built-environment.

Alastair Thompson, CEO of the GSP Group said:

“The fire could have made us more cautious. Instead, it has strengthened our resolve and given greater momentum to our plans, expanding the breadth and capability of the Group and enhancing the solutions available to our customers.

“This acquisition brings together significant manufacturing capability and a wealth of specialist knowledge. It increases Enfield’s capacity, while retaining the skills and experience that are so important to the specialist door industry.

“Alongside the investment being made at Enfield Speciality Doors, the acquisition strengthens our platform for the future, combining manufacturing strength, specialist expertise and the backing of an independently owned Group with the scale and resources to support customers across the construction sector."
