Special School Students Celebrate in Bollywood Style at Annual Prom
Mary Elliot Academy Headteacher Rebecca Davies celebrates the school's Bollywood prom with pupils Lilly and Ismail.
A special school in Walsall marked the end of term in spectacular fashion, as pupils at Mary Elliot Academy enjoyed a Bollywood-themed prom that proved to be a colourful and joyful day to remember.
The whole-school event, which took place on 8th July, saw luxury cars supplied by Eminence Supercare Hire arrive at the school during the morning, giving pupils the chance to sit in them and have their photos taken, before spending the day immersed in the colour, music and energy of Bollywood. Professional Bollywood dancers led workshops throughout the morning before performing in the afternoon, giving every pupil the chance to take part in something truly special.
The prom was funded by the pupils themselves, through mini enterprise projects and selling their products at school events, a wonderful reflection of the school's commitment to preparing young people for adulthood. Whether pupils arrived dressed up or in their everyday clothes, every young person was welcome and celebrated.
The prom is one of the highlights of the Mary Elliot calendar, and one that staff feel passionately about. For many pupils, it is an experience they might not otherwise have access to, a day of glamour, celebration and belonging that means the world to them and to their families.
Mary Elliot Academy would like to thank everyone who supported and helped make the day such a fantastic success, in particular Eminence Supercare Hire for their wonderful contribution.
Rebecca Davies, Headteacher of Mary Elliot Academy, said: "Our prom is about so much more than a party. It is about showing our young people that they deserve to be celebrated, that they belong, and that the world is full of wonderful experiences that are absolutely for them too. My thanks goes to everyone who has supported the event including staff, parents and the generous team at Eminence Supercare Hire. What a day it was."
Mary Elliot Academy is part of Thrive Education Partnership, a multi-academy trust specialising in special educational needs and disabilities education, with schools across the West Midlands and Warwickshire.
